Fonseca, Viveiros, Letourneau: New Technology for New Schools!

This year we are opening three large elementary schools. The opening of these schools provides our district with the rare opportunity to offer students and teachers an abundance of new technology. Each of the three new elementary schools will be outfitted with the following classroom equipment:

• A minimum of 2 student PCs and 1 teacher PC.
• At least 1 Mimio (portable interactive whiteboard) for every 3 classrooms.

• A minimum of 1 document camera per classroom. A document camera is similar to an overhead projector with 1 notable difference—the ability to project opaque objects such as books, calculators, etc.

• A minimum of 1 projection/mobile media station. This consists of a cart holding a projector, a combination DVD/VCR player, and speakers. The station can operate as a self-contained solution to play movies or connect to a computer to project your computer screen.
• 1 computer lab outfitted with 7 PCs and 21 nComputing virtual computer workstations. In essence, the lab takes 7 PCs and splits them into 28 computers.

Of course, the equipment means little if teachers are not well trained—and even less if the technology is not used continually in lessons. Therefore we will continue to offer school-based technology professional development at several points throughout the year. Additionally, we are available almost every Tuesday after school at the Spencer Borden for drop-in technology assistance and training. As always, you may call 5-8402 to reach our help desk with any questions!
